Tuberculosis generally called as ‘TB’ is a communicable disease. It is an infectious disease. The main medium through which it is spread is air and through the phlegm or sputum of a patient affected by TB. The bacteria responsible for TB is Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The general symptoms of TB are loss of appetite and weight and persistent cough. In advanced TB patients there can be blood in the sputum, pain in the chest and out of breathing during exertion. The main diagnosis of TB are positive sputum test, chest X-rays, and tuberculin test. This is because the favorite site of the TB is lungs. In some special cases the alimentary canal and bones also get affected. In India TB is a major health issue. Every one in 100 persons suffer from tuberculosis. About 5% of the people suffering from TB die every year. The present day treatment of tuberculosis is based on drugs(chemotherapy), diet, rest, surgery, rehabilitation and health education. The vaccine which is used to provide some immunization against this disease is BCG(Bacillus Chalmette Guerin). The eradication of TB through awareness is emphasized every year on 24th march which is world TB day.

Rabies is a dreadful disease transmitted to the humans by the bite of animals especially dogs which are infected by rabies virus. In some situations rabies can be transmitted even by the bite of other animals like cats, monkeys, foxes, jackals, wolves and mongoose. The saliva of the animal is the main source of rabies infection. Habies can be transmitted by the contact with the injured skin. The rabies virus takes nearly 10 days to more than one year as its incubation period. The prevention for the affect of rabies is Pasteur vaccine which is administered in the form of 14 injections in the stomach or human diploid cell vaccine in the form of five injections in the thighs or hands.
Some of the symptoms of rabies are severe headache, fever with alternating stages of excitement and depression and a severe muscular spasm in the throat and chest. The dogs which cause rabies are mainly of two types the furious and the dumb one. The furious bites people without any provocation and begins to eat non eatables like mud and stick. Whereas the dumb selects a lonely site and remains in a state of sleep and dies. We must be careful with these two types of dogs in order to be safe from rabies.
